British actor to portray Andy Murray in upcoming biopic
Fraser McKnight to take on iconic tennis star role
McKnight, 35, who is known for his roles in 'The Crown' and 'The Alienist', has been cast as Murray in a new film about the former world number one's life and career.
The film, which is set to begin production later this year, will chart Murray's rise to the top of the tennis world, as well as his struggles with injuries and personal setbacks.
Murray, now 34, is considered one of the greatest British tennis players of all time. He has won three Grand Slam titles, two Olympic gold medals, and the Davis Cup. He is also the only player to have beaten Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in the same tournament.
McKnight said he was "honoured and excited" to play Murray.
"Andy is an incredible athlete and an inspiration to millions of people around the world," McKnight said. "I can't wait to bring his story to life on the big screen."
The film is being directed by James Erskine, who is known for his work on the documentaries 'One Day in September' and 'Free Solo'. Erskine said he was "thrilled" to be working with McKnight on the project.
"Fraser is an incredibly talented actor who I believe will perfectly capture Andy's spirit and determination," Erskine said. "This is going to be a very special film."
